Fewer people died on German roads in July than in the same period last year. The number of accidents has also decreased.
The number of motorists killed in accidents fell in July. According to the Federal Statistical Office, 436 road users died in accidents. Compared to the same month last year, that was 14
fewer people who died in accidents. That is a decrease of 3.1 percent. The number of injuries, which is now 39,100, has also decreased by 4.8 percent.
Less accidents
As the statisticians in Wiesbaden also announced, the police recorded around 187,400 road traffic accidents in July. This corresponds to a decrease of 5.8 percent. Of these, 30,800 (minus 3.7 percent) are accidents with personal injury and 156,600 (minus 6.2 percent) are accidents in which only property damage occurs. In total, the police recorded 1.3 million road traffic accidents in the first seven months of this year. This corresponds to a decrease of 3.2 percent.
In 183,700 accidents there was personal injury (minus 6.6 percent) and in 1.1 million accidents there was only one property damage (minus 2.6 percent). A total of 2,612 people were killed in accidents between January and July. That is 306 fatalities or around 11 percent less than in the first seven months of last year. (AG)
