The discount level on the new car market in Germany has reached a new high. The car discount index of the University of Duisburg-Essen set a new record with 124 points in September. With a total of 435 special cations, the carmakers lured potential new car buyers, 72 special cations more than in the previous month. The previous highest record of November 2011 with 397 campaigns was clearly exceeded.
Hyundai top in vehicle registrations
The increased sales crisis has now also reached the German premium manufacturers, who are now also offering discount campaigns. In addition, the number of own registrations (daily registrations, young company cars) rose to 27.8 percent in August, a total of 62,994 units. Hyundai in
particular has been using this means of sales for several months. The importer has made over 10,850 vehicle registrations in the last three months. This corresponds to 44 percent of all newly registered Hyundai new vehicles. Opel is just behind with 42.4 percent. The institute sees the high discount war as a clue for the coming months and assumes that new registrations will continue to decline.
Unusually high discounts for VW Golf VII
The discounts offered by the retailers are usually added to the discounts offered by the manufacturers. The highest discounts are still available at Citroen and Honda. Discounts of up to 30 percent can be achieved for both the Civic and the Berlingo. In addition, Chevrolet, Seat, Mercedes and BMW are represented in the ten highest discount campaigns.
In contrast, the average discounts for the 30 most popular models in the private customer market fell by 0.4 percent compared to August to 18.5 percent. One of the main reasons is the model change in the VW Golf. While the Golf VI was offered at discounts of over 21 percent in August, the discounts for the Golf VII are lower at 18 percent, but still unusually high for the classic from Wolfsburg.
Increased discounts on the Internet
The discounts have also increased at the four internet brokers Autohaus24, carneoo, meinauto and priceoptimizer. The front runner here is the Ford Fiesta with 33.6 percent, ahead of the Opel Astra with 32.1 percent and the Opel Corsa with 31.2 percent. The fourth-placed Renault Clio is also discounted by over 30 percent. (AG)
