The scene could have played in an action film. But here it was reality. A gang of thieves stole moving trucks on the highway.

A gang of six stole stolen goods from trucks from the hood of a moving car. The men between 28 and 34 years of age were caught red-handed and arrested in Dortmund, the police reported on Monday. Officials observed the dangerous action, which was ready for film, with their own eyes on a motorway near Dortmund and then struck, said a spokesman.

Lanes secured

According to previous knowledge, the thieves drove at night on a two-lane stretch of motorway with a dark car without lights so close to the rear of the moving truck that a crook could reach and open the door through the hood. Within a few minutes, the thieves would have loaded computer parts and other stolen goods into their car. A second car "secured" the theft by blocking both lanes of the motorway behind the truck. After a corresponding light signal from the first car, the thieves drove on.

"The truck drivers only noticed the thefts later when they checked the cargo," said a police spokesman. The investigators initially did not want to provide any information about the amount of damage or further details. The six men who are in custody are being investigated for theft and dangerous interference in road traffic. "If the truck had braked only once, the consequences would have been devastating," said the spokesman. (dpa)
