The VW Up does not remain a loner. In Frankfurt, Volkswagen gave an insight into the variant planning with the latest addition to its model range. Beach and terrain are also to be conquered.
For the premiere of the Up, the new small car from VW at the International Motor Show IAA (public days: September 15 to 25) in Frankfurt, the Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer has announced further versions. In addition to the three-door, which will go on sale in December at a minimum price of 9,850 euros, there will initially be a five-door and an electric version. VW is already talking about the "New Small Family".
So far, two new three-cylinder petrol engines with 44 kW / 60 PS and 55 kW / 75 PS are planned for the production model. The version with 60 hp in the BlueMotion version with start-stop system should require an average of 4.1 liters of fuel. The natural gas variant with 50 kW / 68 PS, called eco Up, will soon be available.
Design studies revealed
At the IAA, Volkswagen also unveiled design studies for the Up, which should sound out the potential for “family planning”: The sporty GT Up could get up to 74 kW / 100 PS, as VW announced. In addition, the Lower Saxony show a Cross Up with increased ground clearance and distinctive attachments.
Two further studies with a somewhat less realistic reference are intended to prove the possibilities that the small car still offers: The Up is also available in Frankfurt as a kind of beach mobile called Buggy Up and as the Up Azzurra Sailing Team. The latter drives without a roof, side walls and doors. VW has not yet given any information on the chances of series production of these studies. (dpa)
