Jürgen Stackmann will head the VW subsidiary Seat from May 1st. Predecessor James Muir will be entrusted with other tasks in the Volkswagen Group.

Jürgen Stackmann has been appointed head of Seat. As of May 1, the 51-year-old will succeed James Muir, who will be employed in another managerial position in the Volkswagen Group.

Stackmann and Muir started at Ford

The banker and business economist worked at Ford from 1989 to 2010 in various positions before moving to the Volkswagen Group. There he was initially Marketing Director at Skoda. Stackmann has been in charge of marketing at the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand since September 2012.

Muir also began his career at Ford, where he held various positions from 1987 to 2001 before moving to Mazda, where he was appointed President of Mazda Europe in 2005. In 2009 he switched to the VW Group and was appointed CEO of Seat.

Seat is the only company in the Volkswagen Group that was in the red last year. The Spanish VW subsidiary is particularly suffering from the sales crisis in Europe and the problems in its own country. Seat delivered around 320,000 vehicles in 2012, 8.3 percent fewer than in the previous year. The company, which is represented in 77 countries, recorded an upward trend in the markets in Germany with an increase of over 22 percent and in Great Britain. (AG)
