Security Gap At Audi: The New Audi A5

BMW is rightly proud of its new 3 Series Coupe. But around 60 kilometers north of Munich, a dangerous thunderstorm is approaching. Audi shows its new coupe in Geneva - the A5.

Ooops, Audi probably slipped a bit. Actually, the first photos of the new Audi A5 should only be published at the Geneva Motor Show, which opens its doors on March 6th. But the first photos came to light from dark corners. And they proved what one might suspect after the last hooded test drives in Scandinavia: the new A5 is probably the most beautiful Audi that the Ingolstadt-based company has ever built.

Technically related to A4

The new Audi A5 is particularly graceful and sporty from the side. A subtle, slightly curved character line extends from the rear light below the glass house to the headlights. The front with a single-frame radiator grille, which this time does not seem too martial, shows similarities to the Audi A8, Audi TT and the Nuvolari design study. The new Audi A4, which will probably celebrate its world premiere at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt, will not look much different from autumn.

Technically, the new A5 is largely related to the A4. Both are based on the same platform. In contrast to the sedan version, the A5 comes naturally as a real coupe with two doors. Striking: the long wheelbase, the short overhangs and a second character line at the height of the center of the rim, which gives the Ingolstadt-based man additional elegance and dynamism.

Talking about smaller diesel

While the slightly weakened single-frame grille threatens the front, the rear has an atypical Audi look. The rounded rear end and the wide rear lights are reminiscent of the Lexus LS460 and its main competitor, the 3 Series Coupe from BMW. Technically, the new Audi A5 will take advantage of the good framework conditions of the new TT and the larger A6.

Fixed sizes in the engine range are likely to be the two-liter TFSI engine with 147 kW / 200 PS and the 233 PS 3.0 TDI unit. We are still talking about a smaller diesel with around 170 hp and the new sports cannons, S5 and RS5, with outputs of up to 420 hp. The quattro drive will be mandatory for most of the A5 models.

The usual high-quality interior

The smaller basic versions are driven via the front axle. All models have six-speed manual transmissions as standard. Those who like it sportier can order the Magnetic Ride electronic chassis and the S-Tronic dual-clutch transmission. The interior of the Audi A5 has the usual high-quality look.
