Porsche has submitted a mandatory offer for the Swedish truck manufacturer Scania. The Stuttgart sports car manufacturer, however, has no strategic interest in the company.

The sports car manufacturer Porsche is offering 31.6 billion crowns or the equivalent of around 2.8 billion euros for the Swedish truck manufacturer Scania. The mandatory offer made necessary by the majority takeover of Volkswagen amounts to 68.52 kroner per A share and 67.10 kroner per B share, the Porsche Holding announced on Monday in Stuttgart. The offer period is expected to run from January 21 to February 10. The graduation is then planned for February 20th. The financing is to come entirely from the available liquidity.

Porsche was obliged to make the offer after the sports car manufacturer increased its stake in VW to over 50 percent of the common shares in early January. As a result, Porsche also indirectly took control of the VW subsidiary Scania. However, Porsche immediately made it clear that it had no strategic interest in the truck manufacturer. That is why they only submitted a minimum bid, it was said again on Monday. "We are happy if we are not offered anything," a spokesman said in early January. (dpa)
