Electric cars should make up at least ten percent of total sales at the car manufacturer Daimler by 2020. The Stuttgart-based company currently does not have an e-car in series production.
The Stuttgart car manufacturer Daimler wants to make a significant part of its sales with electric cars by 2020. Until then, 150,000 to 200,000 electric vehicles are expected to be sold in Europe each year, a spokeswoman confirmed statements by Development Director Thomas Weber from an interview on Tuesday.
Daimler has not yet given a sales target
Daimler has not yet announced a sales target for 2020. But measured against the goal of increasing sales to 1.5 million cars by 2015, the electric cars would have a sales share of at least ten percent. Daimler is thus more ambitious than Europe's largest car manufacturer Volkswagen. The Wolfsburg-based company has resolved that electric cars should account for three percent of group sales by 2018. That would be 300,000 pieces, should VW reach its sales target of ten million cars by then. (dpa)
