In addition to BMW and Audi, Mercedes is also the third premium manufacturer on the hunt for records. Thanks to good sales in the C- and S-Class, the seven-digit range was broken one month earlier than in 2010.
Like its premium competitors BMW and Audi, Mercedes-Benz is still chasing records. 103,378 units were sold in October, an increase of 2.9 percent compared to the same month last year. "Since the beginning of the year we have been able to increase sales month by month compared to the same period in the previous year. We want to continue the trend of the last few months and continue to grow in the fourth quarter," said Joachim Schmidt, Member of the Mercedes-Benz Cars Management, Sales and Marketing.
Mercedes breaks the million mark earlier
And the brand from Stuttgart was able to set new records for the year as a whole. After the first ten months, 1,022,666 vehicles sold the million mark one month earlier than in 2010 - an increase of 7.1 percent. After the record sales in the third quarter, the record in the last quarter of the month should now follow.
According to Schmidt, two models that will be introduced this month will contribute to this. "We expect positive impulses above all from the market launch of the new B-Class and M-Class in November. Even before the official dealership premiere, the response from our customers to these vehicles is excellent. Accordingly, we are still on track to increase the number of vehicles for the year as a whole sell than ever before. " The M-Class produced in Tuscaloosa and already launched in the USA, together with the C-Class, generated a sales increase of 23.4 percent and 22,637 units.
Mercedes recorded a drop in sales in Germany
34 fewer new vehicles were sold on the home market in Germany. The company had to accept a loss of 16.1 percent compared to the same month last year. In October 2010, 26,956 units were still sold.
Looking at the year as a whole, the home market remains just in the red. In the first ten months, 212,640 new cars were sold, compared to 215,997 cars in the same period last year, which corresponds to a decrease of 1.6 percent.
Higher goals for Smart Fortwo

In contrast, Mercedes-Benz posted record sales in numerous markets. In China, 16,539 vehicles (+22.9 percent%) were handed over to customers. With a total of 152,045 deliveries and an increase of 31.6 percent, the total annual sales of the previous year were already exceeded in October. Top values were also achieved in South Korea (plus 23.0%), Russia (plus 34.6%) and Sweden (plus 2.2%).
The Smart Fortwo is also developing positively this year. Thanks to 8,305 units sold in October and so far 85,872 units in the first ten months, the sales target for the small car was raised from 90,000 to around 100,000 units. (AG)
