The integration of Porsche into the Volkswagen Group releases new funds. A new model from 2015 could fill the gap between the 911 and the 918 Spyder.
The Porsche works council wants to invest the money saved in the merger with Volkswagen in a new model, among other things. Between the turbo version of the 911 and the new model 918 Spyder there is a “far too big gap”, said Uwe Hück, head of the Porsche works council, to the “Automobilwoche” trade journal. A Porsche spokesman confirmed on dpa request that a corresponding model had been an issue at the sports car manufacturer for several years. However, there are currently no concrete plans.
"Interesting starting points" for the new series
According to the newspaper, Hück said that the cooperation with VW now offers “interesting starting points” for such a series. "Then such a car with a lot of horsepower and very low consumption could roll out in 2015."
At the beginning of July, Volkswagen announced that it would end the months-long stalemate about how to proceed at Porsche by taking over the remaining 50.1 percent of the Stuttgart-based sports car business. 49.9 percent already belong to Wolfsburg. In addition, they are transferring a VW common share at the same time in order to avoid a billion-dollar tax burden.
“For us this is a high three-digit million amount. Year after year,”said Hück. The implementation of the transaction is planned for August 1st of this year. (dpa)
