After VW and BMW, Audi is now also planning to stop production as a result of the sales crisis. In the Ingolstadt plant, the belts are to stand still for five days.
The VW subsidiary Audi is also reacting to the sales crisis in the automotive industry and is planning a five-day production stop at its Ingolstadt plant. It has not yet been decided whether the closing days will be implemented via working time accounts or short-time work, said a company spokeswoman on Thursday. The production stop is planned for the period between February 23 and 27. The number of employees affected is still unclear, and it is not yet possible to quantify how many cars will not be built as a result. Audi has almost 33,000 employees at the company's headquarters in Ingolstadt, around 15,000 of them in production. Around 46,500 people work for Audi across Germany, including the Neckarsulm site.
Do not withdraw suction
Just a few days ago, the parent company Volkswagen announced short-time work for tens of thousands of employees in the same period, i.e. from February 23 to 27. No corresponding plans were known for Audi so far, but the VW subsidiary had not ruled out such a step in view of the uncertainties about the development in the coming months. The company spokeswoman said the order development will now be monitored in the coming weeks. Audi cannot escape the pull in the industry either.
Last year, however, the VW subsidiary was the only German premium manufacturer to be able to increase sales and crack the targeted mark of over a million vehicles sold. Because of the slack demand, BMW also wants to put around 26,000 employees in several German plants on short-time work. (dpa)
