Rolls-Royce will present a new entry-level model at the Geneva Motor Show. The 200 EX study is technically based on the BMW 7 series.

In keeping with the mood of the crisis on the automobile market, Rolls-Royce is presenting the draft of a new entry-level model at the Geneva Motor Show (March 5-15, 2009). The study called 200 EX gives an outlook on the small offshoot of the luxury sedan Phantom, which should come onto the market no later than next year. This was announced by the British BMW subsidiary in Goodwood. However, the company has not yet provided any information on prices.

Technology like the 7 Series BMW

Technically, the four-door model is based on the long version of the new 7 Series BMW. However, the new luxury sedan has its own body with the typical high bow, which is now a bit rounder. There are also rear doors that are hinged against the direction of travel. The study has a wheelbase of 3.30 meters and is 5.40 meters long. The Phantom comes to 3.57 and 5.83 meters.

In the interior, too, the 200EX and 7 series have little in common. The Rolls-Royce, lined with light leather, has its own instruments and controls, new seats with a three-seater bench in the rear and a new interpretation of the iDrive controller on the center console. According to Rolls-Royce, under the bonnet, which is polished like the Drophead Coupé, is the next evolutionary stage of the BMW twelve-cylinder, which will also be used in the 7 Series in autumn. However, there is no information about its performance data yet. (dpa / tmn)
