Daihatsu is expanding its model range in Europe with further imports from Japan: After the Trevis, inspired by the British Mini, the Japanese small car brand is launching the Materia compact van in the spring. As the Toyota subsidiary announced at the presentation of the new model in Turin, the five-seater, which has been available in Japan as “Q” for a few months, will cost at least 14,490 euros in Germany.

Angular design

According to the manufacturer, there is a car that is 3.80 meters short, 1.69 meters wide and 1.64 meters high and has a particularly angular design. Inside the small car has a variable rear seat that can be moved 16 centimeters and folded down in parts. The trunk volume grows from 294 to a maximum of 619 liters.

Daihatsu also refers to the extensive standard equipment, which includes four airbags, air conditioning, electric windows and a CD radio. Like the head airbags, ESP costs an extra charge and is also not available in all models.

1.3 liter engine

According to Daihatsu, the base model is powered by a 1.3 liter four-cylinder, which is listed in the data sheet with 67 kW / 91 PS. It accelerates to 100 kilometers per hour (km / h) in 11.5 seconds and reaches a maximum of 169 km / h. Daihatsu specifies the consumption at 6.6 liters. For 1000 euros more, the Japanese also sell a 1.5-liter engine with 76 kW / 103, which manages the sprint in 10.8 seconds, reaches 170 km / h and consumes 7.2 liters. This engine will also be available with a four-speed automatic for 970 euros and from May for a further 1000 euros surcharge with all-wheel drive.
