Hyundai wants to get involved in the luxury class with a new model. It remains to be seen whether the Genesis luxury sedan will also be offered in Europe.

Hyundai will shortly be launching its new Genesis luxury sedan. As the Korean automaker announced in Seoul, the new top model will have its world premiere at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit (January 13-27) and will go on sale in Korea and the USA at the beginning of the year.

Whether the five-meter-long notchback will also be offered in Europe is still open, said Hyundai spokesman Stefan Henrich at the European headquarters in Offenbach. That would be beneficial for the brand's image. But it must first be checked whether the costs for a European coordination and an adaptation to the local crash standards are worthwhile, said Henrich. In the USA and Korea, the Genesis, the first Hyundai to have rear-wheel drive, is offered exclusively with gasoline engines. At the top is a new V8 engine with a displacement of 4.6 liters and 283 kW / 380 PS. There are also two V6 engines with a displacement of 3.3 or 3.8 liters and 197 kW / 265 PS or 227 kW / 305 PS.
