The streets will be full again from Friday. In a total of 14 federal states, holidaymakers either go on summer vacation or are already returning.

Numerous traffic jams on German highways are pre-programmed for the weekend. The summer holidays begin in Bremen, Lower Saxony, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia. In total, schools are now closed in 14 of 16 federal states. This is noticeable on the motorways. While the vacation begins for some, others are already on their way back. The ADAC expects traffic jams particularly in the south and to the North and Baltic Seas. Road users should plan more time on the following routes:

• A 1 Cologne - Bremen - Lübeck - Puttgarden

• A 2 Cologne - Dortmund - Hanover

• A 3 Cologne - Frankfurt - Nuremberg

• A 5 Frankfurt - Karlsruhe - Basel

• A 6 Mannheim - Heilbronn - Nuremberg

• A 7 Hamburg - Flensburg

• A 7 Hamburg - Hanover - Würzburg - Füssen

• A 8 Karlsruhe - Stuttgart - Munich - Salzburg

• A 9 Berlin - Nuremberg - Munich

• A 10 Berliner Ring

• A 19 Wittstock - Rostock

• A 24 Berlin - Hamburg

• A 61 Mönchengladbach - Koblenz - Ludwigshafen

• A 93 Inntaldreieck - Kufstein

• Greater Hamburg, Berlin, Cologne, Munich

The motorways in neighboring countries will be just as busy. In Switzerland, the Gotthard and San Bernardino lines are heavily used, in Italy the Brenner motorway and the trunk roads near the coast. Heavy tourist traffic will take place in Slovenia on the A 2 Karawankentunnel - Ljubljana - Zagreb and in Croatia on the A 1 Zagreb - Zadar - Split. In France, more time should be allowed for when traveling south.

To avoid possible standstills on the motorways, click on the traffic jam indicator on the Autogazette before starting your journey. This shows the traffic jams on the German autobahns and updates every five minutes. (AG)
