Nissan has developed a new assistance system. If, for example, the driver confuses the accelerator with the brake pedal, an automatic brake intervention is carried out.
If drivers accidentally press the gas pedal instead of the brakes in their vehicle, this can have dire consequences. Nissan has now developed a safety system that uses automatic braking to prevent accidents or at least reduce their severity in such situations. The image signal data from the four "around view monitors" installed in the vehicle provide information about whether the car is in a parking lot or in a room such as an underground car park. Using sonar, the system is said to be able to detect obstacles and automatically apply the brakes if the vehicle is in danger of colliding with them. Nissan plans to introduce the technology within the next two years.

Another system with several sensors uses the AroundView monitor image processing technology together with a reversing camera and will be installed in new models from 2012. This allows the driver to be warned if another vehicle is in the blind spot. You can also be warned of unintentional departure from the lane. As a third function, the system offers the detection of moving objects such as pedestrians who are behind the vehicle. If reverse gear is engaged, a signal sounds and a display flashes.
The company also has a predictive collision warning system in the safety pipeline to avoid rear-end collisions. A sensor is used not only to check the distance to the vehicle in front. The system is also able to determine the speed of the next vehicle and the distance between the two cars in front. If the second vehicle in front slows down, the Nissan system will warn the following driver optically, acoustically and by tightening the seat belt in a flash. (mid)
