Mercedes has completely changed and freshened up the second generation of the B-Class. The prices for the compact car available from November, however, remained almost unchanged.

It's something like a total renovation that Mercedes has done on the B-Class. Thanks to new drives, a new, refreshing design, new assistance systems, some of which are even standard, Daimler wants to regain lost ground in the compact car segment. "We will again significantly increase our sales volume and our market share in this segment across all variants," says Joachim Schmidt, member of the Mercedes-Benz Cars management, sales and marketing.

Collision warning as standard on the Mercedes B-Class

The entry for the second generation, which will be launched in November, remains the same. At least 26,001.50 euros must be kept ready.

For the price there is the B 180 BluEffiency, which with the Collision Prevention Assist has a radar-based collision warning with adaptive brake assist as standard, which is intended to reduce the risk of rear-end collisions. A drowsiness warning, LED daytime running lights and the Audio 20 CD entertainment system are always included.

The two diesel and gasoline engines on offer are direct injection engines and have the addition of BlueEffiency in their names. The performance of the entry-level petrol has been increased by 5 kW / 6 HP to 90 kW / 122 HP, while fuel consumption has been reduced. The previous entry-level version B 160, however, has been omitted.

The most powerful engine is the B 200 BlueEffiency with 115 kW / 156 PS. The petrol engine costs at least 27,935.25 euros. The two diesel engines with 80 kW / 109 PS in the B 180 CDI BlueEffiency and the B 200 CDI BlueEffiency with 100 kW / 136 PS start at 27,578.25 and 29,809.50 euros, respectively. Up to 21 percent less fuel should be used thanks to the new engines.

Just as important as the reduction in fuel consumption is the design of the new B-Class, which has shed its brittle charm. Daimler hopes to introduce younger customers to the compact car. (AG)
