Around 210,000 vehicles were newly registered in Germany in January. The Korean brands Kia and Hyundai presented themselves on a strong growth path.

In January, the German car market, with 210,195 newly registered cars, only missed the previous year's result by a very thin margin. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), the decrease was 0.4 percent. Almost two thirds (64.6 percent) of all new registrations were registered by traders. At 51.3 percent, there was more diesel than petrol.

Lancia from zero to 353 new cars

With the German brands, the upward trend was stopped by VW. With 2.3 percent, the Wolfsburg closed January in the red. On the other hand, Porsche (+ 15.6 percent), Mercedes (+ 13.1 percent) and Audi (+ 4.8 percent) reported increases.

The Korean brands Kia (+132.1 percent) and Hyundai continued to grow(+51.1 percent), who sold 4,059 and 7,482 new cars. Land Rover achieved 958 sales, an increase of 81.4 percent. Lancia even came to 358 percent compared to the same month last year. The Fiat subsidiary sold a total of 353 new cars. The biggest minus was recorded by Daihatsu. The Japanese Toyota subsidiary is in its last year of sales in Europe and was able to sell 90 vehicles in January, which meant a minus of 51.6.

Compact class the strongest segment

The compact class continues to be the largest segment with 24.6 percent. The minis increased by 14.3 percent, as did the mini vans by 11.3 percent. In contrast, sales of small cars (-11.2 percent) and medium-sized cars (-10.8 percent) fell. (AG)
