Daimler comes under pressure in the emissions affair. The carmaker is said to have manipulated more than a million vehicles between 2008 and 2016. The public prosecutor's office is initially investigating two Daimler employees.
According to media reports, the automaker Daimler is said to be much more involved in the emissions affair with diesel vehicles than previously known. As “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, NDR and WDR report, engines could be installed in more than a million vehicles in which the exhaust gas measurements were manipulated. This emerged from a search warrant from the Stuttgart District Court, which the newspaper and the broadcasters could see. Daimler did not want to comment on the report on Wednesday with reference to the ongoing proceedings.
At the end of May, a large number of police and public prosecutors searched numerous Daimler locations to secure evidence. The investigators suspect: fraud and criminal advertising “in connection with the manipulation of exhaust gas aftertreatment in diesel cars”.
Investigations against two Daimler employees
Süddeutsche, NDR and WDR are now reporting that between 2008 and 2016, Daimler sold vehicles with unacceptably high pollutant emissions in Europe and the USA. The public prosecutor is investigating two Daimler employees on suspicion that car customers were misled and cheated with prohibited advertising. It can be assumed that other employees of the group were involved in the alleged acts.
A Daimler spokeswoman said it was an ongoing investigation by the Stuttgart public prosecutor. “We cooperate fully with the authorities. We don't comment on speculations."
Federal Transport Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) reached an agreement with Daimler on retrofitting 247,000 Mercedes vehicles last year after measurements by the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA). (dpa)
