Spyker has sold its sports car production to the Russian investor Antonov. The reason for this step was given by the Dutch owner of Saab to want to concentrate more on Swedish production.
The Dutch Saab owner Spyker Cars is selling its sports car production in order to be able to concentrate more on the development of the Swedish brand. The buyer was the Russian investor and Spyker supervisory board chairman Vladimir Antonov, the company announced on Thursday.
Interim agreement signed
The Dutch news agency ANP reported that both sides had signed a preliminary agreement and were negotiating details. According to Spyker, the Russian investor will pay 15 million euros for the sports car division. At the same time, the Dutch should participate in any profits up to a maximum of 17 million euros by 2016.
The comparatively small company Spyker Cars bought the troubled Swedish automaker Saab from its US parent company General Motors a year ago. Spyker boss Victor Muller recently stated that he was confident that in 2011 the annual target of 80,000 Saab cars sold will be achieved. For new models, engines are to be supplied by BMW. (dpa)
