Europe's largest car manufacturer has broken the six million mark for the first time in nine months. The group announced on Friday in Wolfsburg. Volkswagen has taken an important hurdle on the way to the targeted number of eight million sales this year, said Group Sales Director Christian Klingler.
VW creates sales record in China
From January to the end of September, the nine Group brands increased their deliveries compared to the previous year by 13.9 percent to 6.11 million vehicles. In China alone, sales rose by 14.6 percent to 1.69 million units, another sales record for VW. In its largest sales market, the group will expand its investments by 3.4 billion euros to 14 billion euros by 2016, as the company reported in Beijing on Friday. The funds will flow from the joint ventures in Shanghai and Changchun. But also in the difficult region of North America, VW posted an increase of 21.4 percent and sold 485,400 cars. (dpa)
