The Peugeot 807 is still lagging behind the buyers' favor in Germany. The considerable amount of space cannot change that.

Thomas Flehmer

The Peugeot 807 cannot get out of the outsider role in Germany. Although the MPV from the French automobile manufacturer is the best-selling model of the so-called Euro vans with over 40 percent, in our countries the? Lion King? only a minor role. Here the VW Sharan and the Escape from Renault or Mitsubishi's Grandis overtake the 807.

The Frenchman has a lot to offer. In the quartet between PSA (Peugeot and Citroen) and Fiat and Lancia, which has existed since 1978, the 807 is currently ahead of the jointly developed competitors of the Euro-Vans, the C 8, the Fiat Ulysse and the Lancia Phaedra.

Lots of space

The space available is particularly impressive. Even in the driver and front passenger areas there is ample space with plenty of storage space - there are 58 storage spaces in total. The green, glowing instrument panel is attached in the middle so that the front passenger and rear passengers can also follow the course of the journey completely. This variation takes some getting used to for the driver himself.

The second unit of indicator lights is located behind the adjustable steering wheel and is also partly difficult to see. The gearshift lever is well integrated into the raised center console, from which the on-board computer and air conditioning are controlled.

Rotatable front seats

In the stationary vehicle, the driver and front passenger have the luxury of being able to avert their gaze from the road. The front seats can be rotated 180 degrees and encourage communication with the other passengers. If they want to end communication, they can quickly leave the car through the electrically opening sliding doors on both sides.

The back rows of the “Platinum” top version with leather seats are also comfortable. A total of eight people can find their place and start the journey comfortably. With full seating, the luggage can then only be distributed over the 324 liter trunk. But if the last row is omitted, up to five people can enjoy up to 1681 liters. Should the second row be expanded as well, the 807 with 2948 liters almost proves delivery truck quality.

Hooked circuit

The driver also has a little van romance when changing gears in the city. The gears cannot be engaged so gently, so that one or the other inmate nods their head. On the other hand, the 4.73 meter long sedan is very easy to steer on the autobahn. The sixth gear is reached quickly and the 100 kW / 136 hp model moves quickly and, above all, relatively quietly.

The motor has a maximum torque of 314 Nm, which is applied at 3000 revolutions per minute. The top speed is reached at 182 km / h. The average consumption of 7.3 liters given by Peugeot cannot be maintained. There are almost two liters more for the mobile that weighs up to 1950 kilograms.

Euro 4 is a long time coming

With a price of 25,450 euros in the introductory version of the “Esplanade” petrol engine, customers have to calculate less than with a comparable competitor. The introductory version of the diesel version costs EUR 3005 more. The premium brand "Platinum" that we operate costs 35,850 euros. However, the customer should wait a little longer before purchasing. So far, the diesel engine has only achieved Euro 3 despite a particle filter. Euro 4 will be mandatory from next year and will also be available in the 807.
