The basic concept remains unchanged, but otherwise the second generation of the Mercedes CLS has been completely redesigned. This ranges from a modified interior concept to more economical engines.
The sportiness of a coupé paired with the space of a sedan - while Audi is putting this idea into practice with the A7 Sportback for the first time, Mercedes is already bringing the second generation of the CLS onto the market. The dynamic four-door model with the star in the radiator grille will celebrate its world premiere at the Paris Salon (October 2 to 17).
Unchanged basic concept
The basic concept remains unchanged: four doors, four seats, a roofline sloping towards the rear and a long bonnet make the Stuttgart an elegant and at the same time sporty sedan with space for four people. The front design, based on the SLS AMG, with the centrally positioned large star and a louvre is new. To the right and left of the new radiator grille there are newly designed full LED headlights, underneath where the formerly round fog lights are now also LED light strips.

When the CLS was first presented in 2003, it was both a sensation and the birth of a new vehicle class. Since its market launch in October 2004 until today, Mercedes has sold 170,000 units worldwide. "Our customers around the world have rewarded our courage to bring a completely new vehicle concept onto the market," explains Joachim Schmidt, member of the Mercedes-Benz Cars management team.
New interior design
The new generation does not have it as easy as its predecessor in the face of new competitors. For this reason, it is all the more important to convince affluent customers. Among other things, this is to be achieved with a new interior design in which wealthy buyers can choose from five interior colors, five trim designs, three types of leather and three types of wood.

There are also new, more powerful and at the same time more economical engines. Of course, all of this has its price. It starts at around 60,000 euros, with the AMG version starting at over 100,000 euros. (mid)
