Audi closed the first quarter of 2010 with a new sales record. The success gives the managers hope for a very special year 2010.
Audi continues to expect significantly better business for the current year. "We want to hand over more than a million automobiles to customers again this year and exceed both sales and operating profit of 2009," affirmed CFO Axel Strotbek at the general meeting of the VW subsidiary on Thursday in Ingolstadt. The operating profit should "increase disproportionately to sales". Audi had already made significantly more money in the first quarter.
Growth of 31.6 percent
Compared to the first quarter of 2009, the carmaker posted an operating profit of 478 million euros between January and March. This corresponds to an increase of 31.6 percent. Sales climbed by 23.3 percent to around 8.2 billion euros in the first quarter.
In the first four months of the year, the group had set another sales record with 360,760 deliveries worldwide and is expecting further increases thanks to the new top model A8 and the new A1 small car. In 2009, Audi got through the severe crisis in the industry much better than the competition from Daimler or BMW. (dpa)
