Volkswagen will very quickly follow up the production model of the new Golf with the GTI version. Visually, the speedster will differ from the production model as usual.
VW is also building the new Golf as a GTI again. The compact sports car is due to hit the market shortly after the series Golf VI, which will be available from dealers from October. "There will be a new GTI soon," said a VW spokesman in Wolfsburg for the dpa topic service. He essentially confirmed a report by the online offshoot of the British magazine “Autocar” (autocar.co.uk). Accordingly, the new GTI will be presented in October. A possible date is the Paris Motor Show (October 4th to 19th).
Speculation about engines
The spokesman described further information as "speculation". According to "Autocar", the next GTI will be powered by a 2.0 liter turbo gasoline engine with 157 kW / 214 PS. The turbo will be based on the new EA888 Group engine and be equipped with the variable valve lift control developed by Audi.
This technology is supposed to make engines more efficient and lower consumption. Visually, the GTI should differ from the basic Golf with new front and rear sills. In addition, 18 and 19-inch alloy wheels and LED daytime running lights are planned. (dpa / tmn)
