Mercedes equips the E-Class convertible with what is known as an “aircap”. In this way, the fresh air fanatics are levering out the icy cold of winter.
The new E-Class convertible from Mercedes is getting an "Aircap", which should enable driving with the roof open even in winter. The four-seater will be delivered with a wind deflector between the rear seats and a wind deflector on the frame of the windscreen, announced the manufacturer ahead of the world premiere at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit (16 to 24 January). Both extend at the push of a button and, in addition to reducing the noise, significantly reduce the turbulence in the interior. This creates a kind of «warm air lake».

According to spokesman Norbert Giesen, the roughly hand-width air control system in combination with the rear bulkhead is more effective than a conventional wind deflector mounted behind the front seats. In addition, in contrast to the previous solutions, it also works when the back seat is occupied.
The system, which is subject to a surcharge, is basically combined with the “Airscarf” neck heating system, which is built into the backrests of the front seats and, according to their name, is supposed to put a warm “air scarf” around the neck of both the driver and front passenger. (dpa / tmn)
