The VW Scirocco is getting its first facelift after six years of construction. The modifications to the Wolfsburg sports model are rather subtle.
After almost six years of construction, the VW Scirocco will have its first lift in August. The Golf's sporty coupé offshoot then comes up with a revised front and rear. There are also new engines.
The external modifications are rather subtle. Among other things, turn signals, daytime running lights and fog lights now move together to the outer edge of the lower radiator grille. The tailgate now has a more pronounced fold in its center; it is now opened using a handle disguised as a VW logo. Inside there are new fabrics and colors, the top model Scirocco R has three additional instruments for boost pressure, oil temperature and lap times above the center console as a reminiscence of the original model.
Scirocco gets new engines
More has happened under the bonnet, where the engines of the Golf VII move in, while the rest of the Scirocco is still based on the Golf VI. There is a choice of four petrol engines with outputs of 92 kW / 125 PS, 132 kW / 180 PS, 162 kW / 220 PS and - in the Scirocco R - 206 kW / 280 PS. Compared to their predecessor, the engines are up to 20 percent more powerful and 19 percent more economical. The two 2.0-liter diesels with 110 kW / 150 PS and 135 kW / 184 PS should also offer more power with lower consumption.
The manufacturer has not yet announced prices for the revamped VW Scirocco, which will debut at the Geneva Motor Show (March 6th to 16th). However, they should be around the same level as the current model, which costs 23,375 euros in the entry-level version. (SP-X)
