The former motorcycle manufacturer MZ is at an end. Despite numerous potential investors, no solution could be found for the new start of the insolvent company from Zschopau.
The restructuring of the insolvent former motorcycle manufacturer MZ from Hohndorf near Zschopau has failed. Despite the more than 30 discussions and factory tours with some well-known potential domestic and foreign investors, no solution had been found, said insolvency administrator Christoph Junker on Tuesday in Dresden. A million euros would have to be invested for a fresh start - with uncertain prospects. "None of the interested parties was willing to do this," said Junker.
MZ in bankruptcy since September 2012
MZ was once one of the largest motorcycle manufacturers in the world. During the GDR era, the engine works delivered up to 85,000 machines to 100 countries every year. In autumn 2008 the then owner Hong Leong Industries from Malaysia stopped the motorcycle production due to economic difficulties. In the spring of 2009, the former racing driver Martin Wimmer and his colleague Ralf Waldmann bought MZ. He had to file for bankruptcy in September 2012.
According to Junker, most of the last 20 employees have received their notice. Only a few of them would find a place in the spare parts business, it was said. The final assembly of 35 electric tricycles for the Swiss Post is currently being worked on. (dpa)
