The introduction of the biofuel E10 was a disaster. Nevertheless, the introduction should not be stopped now, said ADAC President Meyer.
Despite the continued low demand from motorists, the ADAC sees no alternative to the E10 biofuel. "Under no circumstances should the introduction of E10 be stopped now," said ADAC President Peter Meyer of the business newspaper "Euro am Sonntag". The government decision to stick to E10 is in place. "Even if the FDP would like to see it differently." The oil companies are called upon to deal with their failures and to polish up the image of E10 with a targeted campaign. "A new name would help from my point of view, because E10 sounds more like a position in the game" Sink Ships ".
Penalties at E10 are reflected in the price
According to Meyer, possible penalties for not meeting the quota have been fully added to the petrol station price since the introduction of E10. "Anyone who could not or did not want to refuel an E10 had to pay up to nine cents more per liter. The current surcharge of three cents fully covers possible fines. Further increases are not acceptable," Meyer told the newspaper.
At 30 percent, sales at petrol stations that already have E10 are well below expectations. The petroleum industry is to blame for this. "After all, nothing was done from there to improve consumer acceptance." On the other hand, no effort is too high for the corporations to introduce expensive high-quality fuel. From a legal point of view, there is no way of taking action against the pricing of the oil companies, admitted Meyer.
The Federal Environment Ministry recently rejected calls by the FDP for changes to the previous biofuel strategy because of the sales problems. "The federal government is sticking to E10. It is a contribution to meeting the requirements of the European Union for climate protection in the transport sector," emphasized Parliamentary State Secretary Katherina Reiche (CDU). FDP parliamentary group Vice Patrick Döring had previously declared the previous approach in the E10 case to have failed and asked Environment Minister Norbert Röttgen (CDU) to act. (dpa)
