So far, VW had only applied its fuel-saving measures to diesel engines. When it comes to the Polo, the Wolfsburg-based company is following the path that Ford and Renault have already taken.
The VW Polo TSI Bluemotion can now be ordered at a base price of 15,925 euros. The consumption-optimized version of the small car is powered by the well-known 1.0-liter petrol engine in the new turbo version. The three-cylinder has an output of 70 kW / 95 PS and, thanks to low-friction tires, a start-stop system and a longer geared transmission, should only need 4.1 liters of fuel per 100 kilometers in the economy Polo. This corresponds to CO2 emissions of 94 grams. Only Ford (Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost) and Renault (Clio 0.9 TCe) currently offer similarly economical gasoline engines with comparable performance.
Prices for VW Polo TSI Bluemotion not yet known
For the first time, the Wolfsburg-based company is offering a petrol engine under their eco label, the Polo TSI Bluemotion. So far, the particularly consumption-optimized models have all been powered by a diesel engine. Whether it is worth investing in the new economy engine for the customer cannot yet be assessed, as the prices for the probably cheaper standard model with the 1.0-liter turbo gasoline engine are not yet known.
The TSI engine will replace the 1.2-liter turbo gasoline engine, which is currently still in the price list at 16,175 euros in the second highest equipment level "Comfortline". (SP-X)
