The Skoda Superb is very popular with customers. No wonder, since the flagship of the VW subsidiary offers a touch of luxury. Above all, it shines with good costs, as the ADAC notes.

The Skoda Superb is the flagship of the VW subsidiary. Last year, sales of the model positioned in the upper middle class increased by 18.1 percent to 117,000 vehicles worldwide. The Superb is particularly popular with customers in China: there alone 48,000 customers opted for this car. Okay, these sales figures are negligible as a purchase argument. However, this does not apply to the car costs, which the ADAC has just calculated for the models in the various segments.
There the Superb 1.6 TDI takes the top spot. Compared to the competition, it "only" has total costs (including operating, insurance, tire and workshop costs) of 591 euros per month. This is an argument that cost-conscious drivers should not ignore.
Save with Skoda Superb Greenline
Above all, you can save even more in the Superb if you opt for the Greenline version we tested, which is what Skoda calls its fuel-saving models. In contrast to the conventional 1.6 TDI, it has low-friction tires, optimized aerodynamics, a longer gear ratio and a start-stop system. In total, this means a reduction in consumption of at least one liter. In sum, the Skoda Superb Combi we drive should only consume an average of 4.4 liters (CO2 emissions 114 g / km).

Well, the Superb wasn't satisfied with that little, but in the end there was 5.5 liters on the on-board computer. A value that can still please you in view of the current fuel prices. But the Superb has other strengths than its low consumption. On the one hand, there is space of 633 liters in the trunk and in the rear. Three adults can sit there as comfortably as if you were traveling in the long version of a luxury vehicle. So if you are looking for enough space in the rear, you will not be able to ignore the Combi, which is at least 4.93 meters long. The width of 1.81 meters contributes to the rest.
Upper class flair in the rear of the Skoda Superb

Incidentally, the two small footrests under the driver and front passenger seats, which help relieve the legs on long journeys, also exude a touch of luxury class. As positive as the space in the rear is, there is one small point of criticism for the driver's seat: Here, tall drivers with long thighs have to curl up on the seat if they don't want to bump their knees against the lower steering wheel tunnel. But once you sit down, you sit comfortably here too and are delighted with the solid workmanship and suspect why sales of the Superb have soared last year.
The 1598 cc four-cylinder turbodiesel in the Superb has an output of 105 hp and a maximum torque of 250 Newton meters. They are between 1500 and 2500 tours. The Superb is not a paragon of sportiness, but it does its job quite decently, even though the engine does its work very audibly, especially when cold. But you quickly become friends with it, because the Superb hardly allows any weaknesses. The manual five-speed gearbox can be guided through the shift gates without hooking and the steering responds quite directly, giving the driver good feedback on the road. The chassis of the Combi is not uncomfortable, but it is quite tight. So you notice one or the other bump in the road.

Anyone who travels a lot with the Superb in the city will be annoyed now and then about its length. Because the search for a parking space turns out to be a bit difficult. In addition, you should opt for parking sensors due to the poor visibility to the rear and front. While they are part of the standard equipment in the rear, 310 euros are due for the front - money well invested. Incidentally, driving a Skoda Superb is not a cheap pleasure. The Greenline model starts at 28,330 euros. In return, however, you get a fairly well-equipped car. At the same time, you not only get a car with an upper-class touch - at least in terms of space - but also a particularly affordable one with a view to running costs.
