The hype surrounding the Tata Nano is over. In November, sales of the cheap car from India collapsed.
The hype about the cheapest car in the world is followed by disillusionment: The Tata Nano was sold a total of 509 times in November, according to the current sales figures of the Indian car company Tata Motors. In October there were still 3065 units, in September 5520 nanos were sold. A Tata spokesman attributed the steep decline in sales on Friday to sales and financing problems. There are no security problems that have been reported in the past few weeks.
Tata offered nano buyers a free check and repair of car electrics and exhaust systems in November after fires broke out in individual vehicles. Tata spokesman Debasis Ray emphasized that in-depth, repeated investigations had shown that the Nano was a safe car.
Indian newspapers reported that the marketing for the Nano should now be revised in order to better reach the potential buyers. In addition, cooperation with banks in small towns and rural areas will be expanded in order to be able to make better financing offers.
