Among the luxury sedans and sports cars, Bentley vehicles are best equipped under the hood. BMW leads the field among the three German premium brands.

Expensive luxury sedans and sports cars have one thing in common: a lot of power under the hood. Bentley is the undisputed leader. The 140 luxury sledges sold in this country can fall back on an average of 413 kW / 562 PS.

Porsche in seventh place

In second place, according to the latest statistics from the Center Automotive Research (CAR) at the University of Duisburg-Essen, is the British BMW subsidiary Rolls-Royce. Although only 37 vehicles found a buyer in Germany within the first six months, they are still on the road with an average of 394 kW / 536 hp. Ferrari lands in third place with 411 units sold and an average of 390 kW / 530 hp.

In the other ranks there are well-known names such as Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Maserati and Cadillac, which are commonly associated with fast and expensive cars. The Zuffenhauser vehicle manufacturer Porsche lands in seventh place: With 9337 units sold, it is undoubtedly the most coveted brand in the top field, with an average of 250 kW / 340 PS under the bonnet.

BMW ahead of Mercedes and Audi

But what do German drivers like? Across all brands and models, drivers in this country are on the road with an average of 99 kW / 134 PS. Anyone who drives a car from the German premium brands Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW has a much more powerful engine. Audi has an average of 127 kW / 172 PS, Mercedes trumps with 130 kW / 177 PS and BMW even with an impressive 141 kW / 192 PS.

The counterpart to this is the small car brand Smart. 52 kW / 71 PS are completely sufficient for the urban environment of the city runabout. With 16,369 sales, all luxury manufacturers are also outstripped, but this is due to the price difference and less to the low number of horsepower. If purchase prices fall, sales would also skyrocket - both for smart and luxury manufacturers. (mid)
