The new Porsche boss Matthias Müller wants to bring the 918 Spyder super sports car to market faster than planned. To this end, the development process should be accelerated.
According to information from the “Automobilwoche”, the future Porsche boss Matthias Müller is speeding up the construction of the Porsche 918 Spyder super sports car. The two-seater, limited to 918 copies, should come onto the market at the end of 2012, the industry journal reported on Saturday. In order to achieve this goal, the manager ordered an accelerated development process under typical motorsport framework conditions. At the beginning of October, Müller will take over the helm at the Stuttgart-based company from Michael Macht, who is moving to the VW board.
Hybrid is handcrafted
At the end of July, the sports car manufacturer's supervisory board gave the go-ahead for the construction of the 918 Spyder. The hybrid sports car is to be made by hand in a kind of factory and is expected to cost 500,000 euros. So far it has been said that the car will appear in 2013. However, Porsche has not yet officially commented on its schedule.

As the «Automobilwoche» continues to report, the supervisory boards of VW and Porsche want to decide in autumn which strategy the two carmakers will use when using common parts in different models. According to previous information, Porsche is to take over responsibility for the sports car construction kit in the VW Group. A decision on this has not yet been made. (dpa)
