Up to 3,000 lives could be saved every year if every car in the European Union had its lights on during the day. This is what the Deutsche Verkehrswacht assumes - and demands a duty for the light.
The alcohol limits are also inconsistent
So far, the so-called daytime running lights are only required in some European countries, in many others, such as Germany, there is no such requirement. The traffic watch has therefore now called on the federal government to work towards a uniform regulation within the framework of its EU Council Presidency.
"The EU Council Presidency must be used to set standards at European level that will help save human lives," said Heinz Hardt, President of the German Traffic Guard. So far, the regulations on alcohol limits have also been inconsistent. Here, according to the organization, a rigid, uniform regulation would make it clear that alcohol carries an enormous risk potential and is not compatible with driving a vehicle.
