Nissan has developed a self-cleaning paint. It is not yet clear whether the innovative technology will go into series production after the tests.

The Japanese car manufacturer Nissan has developed a special paint that is supposed to repel dirt. Initial tests with the self-cleaning car paint on the Note small car under various weather conditions such as frost, snow or rain were positive. The water- and oil-repellent surface is primarily intended to make it harder for people to stay in the car with dust, road dirt and rain residue. Which would mean that you have to go to the car wash less often. It is not yet known when and whether the new paint could be offered.

This is not the first time that the Japanese are dealing with self-cleaning materials. With the aforementioned Note, which has been in the second generation since last year, the wide-angle camera under the tailgate is already able to clean itself automatically. The convex lens, which covers an area of 180 degrees, recognizes the type of dirt in all weather conditions and reacts accordingly. Dust is blown from the lens with compressed air and heavier soiling is removed with water. The system then air-dries the lens.

A special clearcoat from Nissan that compensates for scratches itself is a bit older. Depending on the depth and outside temperature, the so-called "scratch guard coat" should make scratches disappear within a few hours or days. It is also more scratch-resistant than conventional clear coats. The repair effect is expected to last for around three years and is optionally available, for example, for the large Murano SUV, the 370 Z sports car or the models from the classy subsidiary brand Infiniti.
