The VW Group remains on the road to success. The Wolfsburg-based car manufacturer has delivered 5.98 million cars since the beginning of the year. In October alone, 612,000 cars were delivered across the group.

Volkswagen is breaking one sales record after the other: After the best result so far in a nine-month period, Europe's largest car maker stepped up again in October. It has delivered almost six million vehicles since the beginning of the year. A total of 5.98 million cars were sold, the group announced on Friday. This corresponds to a big plus of 12.4 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. In October alone there were around 612,000 vehicles across the Group.

VW better than the overall market

The sales growth of the Wolfsburg-based company was 9.8 percent, well above the recovery of the entire automotive market, which increased by 4.5 percent. At the same time, VW initially dampened expectations for the rest of the year when it presented its business figures after the third quarter. The company still wants to increase sales. "For the year as a whole we see ourselves on course to achieve a gratifying increase in worldwide deliveries," said Sales Director Christian Klingler.

Business was less successful in Germany, where the company delivered almost a fifth fewer cars in the first ten months. The main reason for the drastic decline are the purchases brought forward last year due to the scrapping bonus. The German market as a whole was minus 26,8 percent even worse.

For the first time in the first nine months of a year, the VW Group had broken the five million vehicle delivery mark at the end of September. In China in particular, but also in the difficult US market, Volkswagen achieved solid growth. In China, sales rose by over 34 percent and in the important US market by over 20 percent. Of the sister brands, Audi was the most successful. The Ingolstadt-based company delivered 87,600 cars in October. By 2018 at the latest, the Wolfsburg-based company intends to replace Toyota as the world's largest car manufacturer and sell over ten million vehicles per year. (AG / dpa)
