Performance values like a super sports car and the comfort of a luxury sedan? Mercedes subsidiary AMG has pepped up the E-Class into a business bolide.
By Thomas Flehmer
Actually, it is a paradox to jet across the country roads in a luxury limousine surrounded by a sound that is almost chubby for these conditions. But the highly stylized E-Class is one of the classics in the range of the Mercedes subsidiary AMG. And if 557 HP is not enough, you can now order a further 28 HP.
Faster than the Mercedes SLS AMG
Because AMG has set another high point and now uses - like Porsche, for example - the addition "S". But not only the 430 kW / 585 PS impress in the E 63 AMG S 4Matic, but also the all-wheel drive, which was used for the first time, which keeps the business racing car even better on track and prevents slippage when accelerating.
The system sends 33 percent of the power to the front and 67 percent to the rear axle so that the sprint from zero to 100 km / h can be achieved within 3.6 seconds. Just for better classification: the SLS AMG GT Coupé super sports car takes 0.1 seconds longer.
Mercedes E 63 AMG S 4Matic is braked electronically

However, it is unlikely that the sedan will overtake the charismatic SLS on the autobahn. Because despite the increase in performance, AMG has limited the top speed to 250 km / h. If you want to enjoy the bearish 800 Newton meters of torque, which is between 1750 and 5000 revs, for a longer period of time, you have to take driver training at AMG so that the electronic lock can then be lifted and speed 300 can be reached.
But the S model is also doing well beyond top speed. The 5.5-liter bi-turbo is very agile in interaction with the AMG Speedshift MCT and seven gears, so that country roads can also be tackled very dynamically. Four driving programs adjust the two-ton truck optimally to the respective conditions, with a limited-slip differential on the rear axle there is enough traction even when exiting a curve. Steel springs on the front axle and air springs on the rear axle form the basis for driving to the racetrack right from the start.

And instead of sitting in a purist cockpit for two near the asphalt in narrow sports seats, the E 63 AMG S 4Matic is also comfortable on a sporty ride. The track, which is just under five centimeters wider, provides the necessary stability so that the people sitting in the back can sip the sparkling wine with pleasure even in the curves. If you still have 5000 euros left, you can invest it in the Bang & Olufsen sound system to transform the 4.90 meter long limousine into a concert hall and enjoy Wagner on the racetrack.
But there are also other packages to choose from to further equip the E 63 AMG S 4Matic. But if you can afford a sedan or T-model, you will probably have more money for other amenities. Because at least 118,405 euros are due for the Limo, 121,023 euros costs at least the station wagon. Those who can do without 28 HP and all-wheel drive are there with at least 103,054 euros.

But the E-Class has a very special standing in the AMG portfolio. "In the driving and safety tests, these drivers are mostly in the majority," says AMG project manager Hendrik Hummel of the Autogazette. And the E-Class also plays a special role in sales. The S-model will certainly provide a role reinforcement and pulverize the apparent paradox between luxury and chubby sound.
