The Porsche Museum opens its doors to the public on Saturday. 80 sports cars are supposed to bring the journey through history to life.

It is reminiscent of a spaceship or a predator - the futuristic new Porsche Museum opened in Stuttgart on Wednesday. The 100-million-euro building is directly opposite the headquarters of the car company and shows around 80 sports cars on 5600 square meters as well as a journey through Porsche history. In the presence of the President of the State Parliament Peter Straub, the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg Günther Oettinger, Interior Minister Heribert Rech, Stuttgart Mayor Dr. Wolfgang Schuster, the members of the Porsche and Piëch families, as well as 200 other invited guests, Porsche boss Wendelin Wiedeking was delighted with the “new business card at Porscheplatz. At this meeting point, we welcome our international customers as well as the many people from all over the world who do not drive a Porsche themselves, but are still extremely fascinated by our sports cars."

200,000 visitors expected per year

From this Saturday on, the building will also be open to all visitors. Around 200,000 interested people are expected every year. The museum originally opened in 2007 and was only supposed to be half as expensive. Around 80,000 guests were already counted annually in the previous museum on the factory premises, which only had space for 20 exhibits. In total, the historical collection

of Porsche AG comprises a fleet of 400 racing and sports cars. Since almost all exhibition vehicles still take part in historical racing events, the rarities on display change constantly.

However, the museum should not only serve its actual purpose. "We will use the museum not only as an exhibition, but also as a communication platform - as an integral part of the constant dialogue that Porsche maintains with the public," said Wiedeking.

The new Porsche Museum will be open from January 31st every day, except Mondays, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Adults pay eight euros admission (reduced: four euros). Children up to the age of 14 have free entry when accompanied by an adult. (AG / dpa)
