Mercedes has revised the SLK. From April the six-cylinder SLK 350 will be on the road with a new “sports engine”.

In April, Mercedes brings the revised SLK to dealers in Germany. The roadster will continue to be offered in four engine variants and cost between 36,503 euros for the SLK 200 Kompressor and 69,049 euros for the top model SLK 55 AMG. The manufacturer announced this at a presentation in Nice.

With a Formula 1 nose

"We wanted to make the car sportier without sacrificing comfort," says Jürgen Weissinger, head of the series, summarizing the model upgrade measures. That is why the open two-seater was given a front section with a more pronounced Formula 1 nose and a more aggressive front apron, as well as engines with more power. There is also the option of direct steering for more dynamic steering behavior. Other changes concern equipment and infotainment systems.

Under the hood, the program begins with the 1.8-liter four-cylinder in the SLK 200 supercharger, whose output has increased by 15 kW / 21 hp to 135 kW / 184 hp. At the same time, according to Mercedes, consumption is reduced by 1.0 to 7.7 liters, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 182 grams per kilometer. The unchanged 170 kW / 231 PS V6 in the SLK 280 has also become more economical and now only consumes 9.3 liters (CO2: 220 g / km).

Larger six-cylinder

According to Weissinger, however, the greatest attention was paid to the larger six-cylinder in the SLK 350, which Mercedes now has as a "sports engine". Thanks to increased compression and increased engine speed, its output increases by 24 kW / 33 PS to 224 kW / 305 PS, while consumption drops by 1.1 to 9.2 liters. This reduces CO2 emissions in the automatic version by 23 to 219 g / km. The eight-cylinder engine with 265 kW / 360 hp in the SLK 55 AMG has been adopted unchanged. (dpa / gms)
