Driving has become more expensive in the past twelve months. Buyers of motorcycles have to dig deep into their pockets.
The rise in fuel prices has driven up car costs in Germany over the past twelve months. While the prices for the general cost of living rose by 0.9 percent, driving a car was 3.1 percent more expensive, as the ADAC announced on the basis of the car cost index. The index is collected quarterly by the Federal Statistical Office and the automobile club.
Fuel prices increased by 8.5 percent
Accordingly, fuel prices rose by 8.5 percent within a year. In contrast, the acquisition costs for new cars remained almost stable at 0.1 percent. When buying motorcycles, however, customers had to dig much deeper into their pockets than they did a year ago; the price was 4.2 percent.
The car cost index comprises the prices for the purchase and maintenance of cars and motorcycles. This also includes, for example, the prices for spare parts, repairs and driver training. (dpa)
