Mazda has taken the second generation of the 5 Series out of the gray area of design. The variability of the seven-seater was retained.
Mazda has made the jump from the gray mouse to the attractive family van with the new five-piece. While the first generation was more square, practical and well located, the new version, available since October 16, exudes a certain flair.
Grown by eight centimeters
The reason for this is the sideline, which characterize three wave-shaped beads and thus create a feeling of dynamism from the very first glance. This touch of dynamism already starts with the front view. The large radiator grille with honeycomb grille is strongly reminiscent of the manufacturer's sporty MPS models. And the taillights, in conjunction with the roof spoiler, also convey a touch of aggressiveness.
In addition, the family carriage has grown by eight centimeters to now 4.58 meters and thus attracts even more attention due to its size. The practical sliding doors that can also be opened electrically have remained. However, only from the Sports-Line version. But the sliding doors also fulfill their practical uses when opened or closed by hand. On the one hand, you don't have to worry about possible damage to other vehicles in tight parking spaces. On the other hand, an uncomplicated entry and exit is made possible.
Between 112 and 1597 liters of luggage space

The two seats in the third row, which are only available from the Center Line version, are also subject to a surcharge. In contrast to competitors, adults can also comfortably ride in the third row. Just as the two rear seats can be lowered, the middle seat in the second row can also be folded in and used as a shelf.
Then bulky, longer goods can also be transported. A trunk volume of up to 1597 liters is available. If the rearmost seats are folded away, it is still a good 426 liters. If the seats are really needed for passenger transport, the luggage must be placed on the passengers' legs, as the trunk with a volume of just 112 liters can no longer be perceived as such.
Solid basic gasoline

The cockpit was redesigned. The standard air conditioning and the CD audio system were decorated in aluminum. The seats offer good lateral support, which would not have been needed because the chassis provides excellent support, even if the steering is designed a little too much for comfort.
The 1.8 liter entry-level petrol engine with 85 kW / 115 PS already has enough comfort and momentum. The 1.4 ton truck takes 12.8 seconds to sprint to the 100 km / h mark and later reaches 182 km / h. 7.2 liters are supposed to flow through the hoses of the family van over 100 kilometers, which corresponds to CO2 emissions of 168 grams per kilometer.
10,000 sales planned for 2011

Those who want it a little sportier can choose the newly developed 2.0 liter engine with direct injection. This does not work as hard as its smaller counterpart and works much quieter. Combined with an automatic start-stop system, consumption is only 6.9 liters, even if the sprint is completed in 11.2 seconds and the 1.62-meter-high five-piece keeps the speed up to 194 km / h. At the beginning of 2011 a 1.6 liter common rail diesel with 85 kW / 115 PS will be added, the unit of which comes from the cooperation with the PSA group. However, only 17 percent of the targeted 10,000 units sold in the coming year should fall on this.
These must invest at least 20,490 euros for the entry-level petrol engine in the Prime-Line variant. The next higher version, Center-Line, with seven seats already costs 2300 euros more, the top equipment Sports-Line starts at a proud 27,490 euros. In order to make the van, which is much more attractive compared to its predecessor, even tastier, Mazda reduced the prices by 500 euros from the start by December 31. (AG)
