During its production time, the Audi A2 was more or less disdained. As a used vehicle, the strengths of the economical mini-van are very popular.
There are cars that are ahead of their time when they launch. This includes, for example, the Audi A2. As a small space miracle for the city with low consumption, the minivan already offered features at the market launch in 1999 that are still up-to-date and in demand today. But at that time the demand remained subdued, so that the A2 production was discontinued in 2005. In the used car market, the A2, which became the record vehicle this week, is still in demand: In the ADAC breakdown statistics, the A2 occupies a top position and is therefore considered to be “very reliable”.
Clear list of defects
The list of deficiencies is clear: The timing belt of the gasoline engines occasionally tore. In 2001 and 2002 diesel models, the ADAC occasionally found defects in the turbocharger; partly the turbo hose had slipped off. Defective ignition coils caused problems on some 2000 vehicles. The production time was too short for a generation change in the 3.83 meter long car from Ingolstadt. After around 175,000 copies, production was stopped. Highlights of the optional equipment list were a glass roof and a parking aid.
When it comes to engines, the five-door minivan scores with a unit that just undercuts the consumption of three liters of fuel per 100 kilometers: Audi gives 2.99 liters for the 1.2-liter diesel engine (45 kW / 61 hp). Other diesel engines in the range of engines are two 1.4-liter units that deliver 55 kW / 75 PS and 66 kW / 90 PS respectively. As a petrol engine, the A2 was delivered with a 1.4-liter engine (55 kW / 75 PS) or a 1.6-liter FSI machine (81 kW / 110 PS).
Start at 4850 euros
According to the Schwacke list, anyone who wants to buy a used A2 pays at least around 4850 euros: the A2 1.4 TDI from model year 2000 should be available at this price. The most expensive is a used A2 1.6 FSI from 2005 with around 9850 euros. A three-liter A2 built in 2003 costs around 6800 euros. (dpa / tmn)
