Opel's appearance in Paris after the crisis year 2009 is modest and is essentially limited to the Astra Sports Tourer. But the Rüsselsheim carmakers don't have to hide from that.
A little away from the hustle and bustle of the trade fair and with only one real new product in the luggage, Opel is presenting itself at the Paris Motor Show. Who is surprised? After all, after GM's failed rescue attempt, the announcement of mass layoffs and declines in sales last year, the people of Rüsselsheim had little to smile about.
But the brand with the lightning bolt still exists, albeit well hidden in a pavilion in Hall 5, where those manufacturers have pitched their tents who currently only play second fiddle in the concert of the big players on the European automobile manufacturer market.
Automatic start-stop will follow in 2011
For obvious reasons, the Opel employees did without long-legged hostesses and the very large train station. But not to present a new addition to their compact series with the five-door station wagon Astra Sports Tourer.
The undisputed star in the family-friendly compact station wagon is the rear seat that can be folded down at the push of a button, which thanks to the "FlexFold system" expands the trunk to a load volume of up to 1,550 liters. Twist-beam rear axle and ergonomically optimized front seats are designed to ensure agility and health. Nine engines with a power range from 70 kW / 95 PS to 132 kW / 180 kW are currently available for propulsion. An automatic start-stop system should not be submitted until the beginning of next year; it should then reduce CO2 emissions to more than a presentable 109 grams per kilometer. (mid)
