Porsche turns the tide in the wiretapping affair. A trap should be set for the alleged perpetrator and client.

In the bugging affair with a baby monitor, Porsche boss Wendelin Wiedeking played the decoy. "He made statements in his room to check where they reappear," said a spokesman for the sports car manufacturer in Stuttgart on Saturday. He confirmed a report by the news magazine "Focus", according to which the company's own security force wanted to set a trap for the alleged perpetrator of a leek attack against Wiedeking. However, the action was unsuccessful because the information has not yet appeared anywhere.

Suspect in financial trouble

A week ago it became known that a baby monitor had been found in a room in a Wolfsburg hotel where the Porsche boss had spent the night before the supervisory board meeting in November 2007. Porsche had confirmed corresponding media reports. At first, however, it was said that the device had been removed by security guards before Wiedeking came into the room.

On Monday, a company spokesman said there was an initial concrete suspicion against an employee of an external security company. He didn't want to give details. The news magazine reports that the suspected security guard is in serious financial difficulties and has already filed for personal bankruptcy. The investigators suspected that possible backers might have paid him to hide the baby monitor in Wiedeking's room, writes the magazine.

According to its own information, the sports car manufacturer had only started independent research on the Monday after the baby monitor was found. With the findings, they then turned to the public prosecutor and filed a complaint because of the specific suspicion of a criminal offense. The relevant documents were handed over to the authorities in April. (dpa)
