In the battle of the auto giants, only the statistics that they keep count. And whether Volkswagen or Renault are in third place in the world rankings may only depend on who you ask.
Volkswagen aims to be number one in the global automotive market by 2018. But now, instead of moving up, the Wolfsburg-based company has moved down one step and has been pushed to fourth place in the world rankings by Renault-Nissan. However, as the magazine "Automobil Produktion" points out, the Franco-Japanese alliance also collects all Lada sales in its sales, although it only has a 25 percent stake in the Russian manufacturer AvtoVAZ. Head-to-head races in pairs
If you take a closer look at the list of the ten largest car manufacturers in the world, you can see that the giants always go head-to-head in pairs. Toyota and GM, number one and number two, are only around 30,000 units apart with their sales figures of 8.42 million and 8.39 million. This is followed by Renault-Nissan with 7.28 million units and a lead of almost 140,000 units over VW. In fifth and sixth place are Hyundai-Kia with 5.7 million vehicles and Ford with 5.31 million units. PSA sold 3.6 million cars, while competitor Honda sold 3.56 million vehicles. Ninth and tenth places went to Suzuki with 2.59 million cars and Fiat with 2.23 million sales. (mid)
