It is primarily the manufacturers of small vehicles who benefit from scrapping. Since these cars are very often imported, the Association of International Manufacturers in particular celebrates what is happening on the car market.
Importers of foreign cars in particular benefit from the state scrapping premium. According to the Association of International Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (VDIK), their market share reached 45 percent of all new registrations in Germany in February. In 2008 as a whole, the proportion was around 35 percent.
Success in the east
As the association reported on Tuesday in Bad Homburg, 277,700 new passenger cars were registered in February - 21 percent more than a year ago. The environmental bonus is particularly successful in the eastern federal states. The VDIK is expecting an increase of more than 40 percent compared to February 2008.
The car buyers often opted for smaller and therefore more economical models. VDIK President Volker Lange said the Federal Government should think about extending and increasing the funding volume. (dpa)
