In August, the Korean manufacturer Kia will launch its new Sportage compact off-road vehicle. Then there will also be new engines.
The South Korean manufacturer Kia will be selling the third generation of the compact SUV Sportage from August. At the market launch, two 2-liter engines will initially be available, as Kia Motors announced on Tuesday in Frankfurt am Main. The 100 kW / 136 hp 2.0 CRDi diesel engine is celebrating its premiere. The petrol engine has an output of 120 kW / 163 PS. Prices have not yet been announced.
All-wheel drive optional
The two units initially available can be equipped with four-wheel drive for around 1500 euros each. Two smaller engines follow later, including the first direct injection petrol engine from Kia 1.6 GDI with 103 kW / 140 PS. Standard equipment is a 6-speed manual gearbox, only the 2-liter petrol engine is only delivered with five gears. Some models are also available with a more economical 6-speed automatic. An optional automatic start-stop system also helps to save fuel.
In terms of dimensions, the sister model of the Hyundai iX35 is longer, flatter and wider than its predecessor. The new edition built in the Slovakian Kia plant was stretched by nine centimeters to 4.44 meters. The first Sportage hit the market in 1994. Around 860,000 copies of the model have been sold worldwide to date. (dpa / tmn)
