Porsche is celebrating a special anniversary. More than a million Porsche racing cars have been produced at the Zuffenhausen site in 60 years.

The manufacturer's museum is now showing a special exhibition on 60 years of Porsche production in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. From March 20 to May 9, visitors can use photos to gain an insight into the beginning of production and the development of the headquarters. In addition, one of the first Porsche 356 Coupé produced there is exhibited, which is on display for the first time in a museum after restoration work. The exhibition halls are open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Start with a Porsche 356

More than a million Porsche racing cars have been manufactured at the production site in Stuttgart since 1950. For example, the first Type 356 was produced on April 6, 1950 and by the end of 1950 there were a total of 369 vehicles. The Zuffenhausen plant was expanded over the years: In 1952, for example, the building complex of Porsche Plant 2 designed by the architect Rolf Gutbrod was built, and in 1956 the 10,000 Porsche 356 rolled off the assembly line.

Plant 3 was built in 1960, which housed the sales and customer service departments, among other things. Today the 911 series as well as vehicles of the Boxster series and all Porsche engines are manufactured in the plant. The Stuttgart-based carmaker's series vehicles are produced on one line together with the racing versions. (mid)
