Car buyers can look forward to it. The number of discounts at retailers has again increased significantly. Price reductions have replaced inclusive packages.
Automobile manufacturers granted increased discounts in September. The price competition in the German car market is thus intensifying. Overall, more classic price and discount programs were launched again. This is the result of the "Discount Index" study by the Center Automotive Research (CAR) at the University of Duisburg-Essen.
Significant price reductions
Accordingly, the flat rates and all-inclusive offers that dominated in the past have been partly replaced by price reductions and new entry-level prices. Additional sales promotion campaigns by car manufacturers and the increase in vehicle registrations by manufacturers and dealers have further increased the discount level.
The large number of direct discounts from manufacturers is also said to have been new in September. New cars at reduced prices such as the new Opel Astra Limited for 13,990 euros, promotional prices of 6,990 euros for the Citroen C1, the Renault Clio for the same price as 20 years ago or the exchange bonuses of 3,000 euros at Mercedes are examples of the new wave of direct discounts.
According to Professor Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, such an intensive manufacturer offer of bar discounts had not been observed since the end of the scrapping premium. This is a sign that the German car market has still not recovered from the market upheavals of the scrapping bonus last year. It would therefore be very difficult to get customers used to "normal" prices again in the future.
All in all, CAR 316 researched manufacturer campaigns openly advertised for the month of September. That is 16 actions more than in the previous month. Open campaigns are all sales promotion measures officially advertised by the car manufacturers, such as special models, special interest rates, cash discounts and exchange bonuses that are offered nationwide.
